Amnon Yariv, Martin and Eileen Summerfield Professor of Applied Physics and professor of electrical engineering, Caltech Prof. Yariv's talk will describe these research areas of his group: (1) Phase-Lock Optoelectronics, where the unique electronic properties of semiconductor lasers are used to phase-lock, chirp, and coherence - clone them. A range of new applications built on this new mode of control will be described. (2) Hybrid Si/III-V Optoelectronic Circuits will lead to a new generation of Optoelectronics with the new "circuitry" fabricating optics (lasers, modulators, etc.) on Si wafers using Si processing technology. (3) Slow Light. New optical waveguides coupled with Optical Resonators (Coupled Resonator Optical Waveguides - CROWS) slow down optical pulses. |
